Breck P. Kent
(1946-    )

Breck P. Kent was born in 1946 in West Orange, New Jersey, and grew-up in Madison, New Jerseu. After graduating from Madison High School in 1964, he majored in Pre-Med/Biology at The Kings College, and received his Bachelor's Degree in 1969. This was followed by post-graduate work at Paterson State College to obtain his teaching certificate, and more graduate courses in Geology at Columbia University.

Kent began collecting minerals in the Paterson, New Jersey trap rocks with Bill Butkowski, Rich Kosnar, and Charlie Key in the early 1960s, and taught Earth Science in the Basking Ridge public schools for 33 years. He also served as Director of the Lamont Doherty Lab seismic station in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

During the last 35 years Kent has also been working as a freelance stock photographer for textbook and magazine publishers, specializing in wildlife and geological subjects. In 1976 the Photographer's Society of America ranked him among the ten top nature photographers worldwide. In 1988 he received the Educational Press Association's Distinguished Service Award. He still travels widely for wildlife photography and currently has over 120,000 stock images available. His photos have appeared in well over 20 major magazines and many books and calendars.

Breck Kent has been dealing in mineral specimens part time at local New York-New Jersey shows since 1985. At present he only does the East Coast Show at Springfield, Massachusetts.
