William S. Kehl
(1899-1989)

William Schwenk Kehl was born in Red Lion, York County, Pennsylvania on December 18, 1899, the son of Ada and Charles Kehl, a minister, but he also spent time with his grandparents, Emma and William Kehl in Greenville, Pennsylvania. By 1920 the family had moved to Carlisle in Cumberland County. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1932, and received an Education degree there in 1959. He worked for many years as a high school teacher in Upper Darby, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Helen M. (married in 1925) had at least one son, Donald, born in 1926. William died May 16, 1989, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
