John E. MacDonald
(1933-2009)

John Eric MacDonald was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 16, 1933. He was a disabled Army veteran and earned a BBA at the University of Miama under the GI Bill. He became a mineral dealer and avid mineral collector. His Franklin and Sterling Hill, New Jersey mineral collection, totaling 3,500 specimens, was sold around 1980, at least some specimens ending up in the Smithsonian.

John and his wife Elaine subsequently retired to Tucson, Arizona. In 1995 they moved to Sun City Vistoso. He died August 12, 2009, at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Tucson.
