Alexander P. "Alex" Klinshaw was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 14, 1911, the son of Alice Emerson (1891-1980) and Sandor Klinscovski (Klinchofsky, Klinovssky; aka Albert Paul Kolum (1883-1963), a Hungarian immigrant and laborer. His father apparently abandoned or divorced his mother before 1920 (she listed herself as "widowed" on the 1920 census), and Alex grew up in the home of his maternal grandfather, Walter Emerson, in Middle Township, New Jersey.
Alex married Margaret Johnson and settled in Audubon, New Jersey, where he built a large and prominent mineral collection and served as Bulletin editor for the Delaware Valley Earth Science Society. He died January 15, 1988, in Sicklerville, New Jersey.
