Tomáš  Kruťa
(1906-1998)

Tomáš Kruťa, a Czech mineralogist and mineral collector in Brno, Czech Republic, was born in 1906. He received his PhD and served as Director of the Mineralogical Laboratory of the Moravian Museum in Brno (most of his collection ultimately went to the Museum). He wrote Moravian Minerals and Their Literature, 1940-1965 (1966), and Silesian Minerals and Their Literture (1973). The mineral krutaite (a rare copper selenide from Petrovice in the Czech Republic) was named in his honor in 1972. Tomáš Kruťa died January 18, 1998, at the age of 92. He was a scholar and gentleman of the Old School, and a walking encyclopedia of mineralogy.
