George B. Goodwin
(1874->1934)

Milwaukee mineral collector and dealer George Benjamin Goodwin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 11, 1874, and graduated from East Side High School. Following in the footsteps of his prominent father, Col. George B. Goodwin, Sr. (1834-1886), an 1880 graduate of Williams College and a member of the Wisconsin House of Representatives, George Jr. received his LLB from Northwestern University Law School in 1900. He worked first as an attorney for the U.S. Treasury Department, then for the Northwest Mutual Life insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also published The Geometric Symbols of Masonry (1925). He advertised in The Oregon Mineralogist in 1934, offering "Beautiful Mineral Collection. A neat cabinet box of 20 choice, colorful mineral specimens—typical and carefully selected to show essential character. Also copyrighted booklet. Interesting, educational. Valuable to schools, students, collectors. Price only $1.00."
