K. von Steinwehr
(1871-1958)

Kurt von Steinwehr was born April 5, 1871 in Konigsberg, Germany. He was an engineer by profession, but his principal love was collecting insects and butterflies; he also collected minerals and coins. He began collecting insects in 1889 in East Prussia, and in 1891 relocated to Köln where he collected specimens throughout the Rhine area. In 1900 he donated his collection of butterflies to the Köln Natural History Museum, and another collection he donated to the Koenig Museum in Bonn in 1936. He was listed in 1901-1908 as a member of the Friends of Aquaria and Terreria. His collection of coins and medals was sold at auction in 1934. He died May 13, 1958 in Oerlinghausen, Germany.
