Charles W.  Velte
(1914-1987)

Charles William Velte, Jr. was born in New York on June 7, 1914, the son of German immigrants Marie Barbetta and Charles W. Velte, Sr., a real estate broker. Charles and his wife Doris (1924-2005) lived in East Moriches, Suffolk County in Long Island, New York. He built a large collection of minerals from localities worldwide, from the 1930s thru the 1970s. After his death on May 22, 1987, his collection passed to his heirs. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and is buried in Calverton National Cemetery, New York. A small portion of the collection was sold to Donna and John Kirschenheiter (Mother Nature Father Time).
