Daniel Muralt
(fl. 1868-1894)

Daniel Muralt operated a dealership in minerals and other natural history items at Kärnthnerstrasse 22 in Vienna, Austria. He may have been a descendant of the famous Zurich naturalist Johannes von Muralt (1645-1733), and Johannes von Muralt (1780-1850). He received an “honorable mention” award at the 1862 World's Fair in London, “especially for inexpensive small wood specimens and shells.” He handled mainly shells but also insects, zoological specimens and minerals (1868; Sitzungsberichte der kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften). In the Österreichische Statistik for 1884 he is mentioned as a dealer in coral specimens, and as a mineral dealer in 1887 in the Annals of the Vienna Natural History Museum. He is also mentioned as a source of specimens in the Annals of the Vienna Natural History Museum in 1889, 1894 and 1895. When the shell and mineral dealer Carl Pötsehke died, Muralt purchased his remaining stock. The 1894 “Notizen” for the Vienna Natural History Museum mentions “Mineralienhändler D. Muralt in Wien.”
