Larner R.  Peak
(1916-1988)

Larner Raymond Peak was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 19, 1916, the son of Florence M. Ziegler and Larner Dutch Peak, a shipyard machinist (1920), sewing machine salesman (1930) and machinery salesman (1940). He grew up in Philadelphia, and served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. In the 1950s he lived in Erie, New York, and later on West Oak Lane and in King of Prussia, both Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He married Margaret S. Anthony (1921-2003) in 1947. He died July 9, 1988, aged 72, in Valencia, California. Among his survivors was a younger brother, Charles Albert Peak (1918-2000) of Quakertown, Pennsylvania.

Larner Peak began collecting minerals at least as early as 1947, and possibly before 1942. His labels carry his name at the bottom and a small stork (of unknown significance) in the upper right corner. There are two varieties: one has spaces for both a catalog number and a Dana number; the other has just one space for "Number." His mineral collection was dispersed following his death.
