Perry  Bynum
(1908-1987)

Dr. Hugh Perry Bynum was born May 10, 1908 in Memphis, Tennessee. He and his wife Anne, whom he married in 1940, were mineral collectors in Memphis, Tennessee. They subscribed to the Mineralogical Record from 1976 to 1988. They were founding members of the Memphis Archeological & Geological Society and instrumental in the development of Chucalissa Indian Museum. The couple traveled extensively in the U.S. collecting and trading with others and amassing a large collection of over 600 flats of crystal specimens as well as cutting material, rocks and fossils. (The collection is currently in the process of being slowly sold off piecemeal on E-bay.) The Bynums also traveled with Dr. Fred Pough to Mexico, Brazil and Africa and were regulars at the Tucson Show and other mineral shows over the years. Perry Bynum died August 9, 1987 in Memphis, and Anne died August 18, 1997 in Memphis. They are survived by one daughter, Ellen (Mrs. Stewart Clark Toshach) in LaConner, Washington.
