Henry Stockbridge
(1856-1924)

There were four generations of men named Henry Stockbridge in Baltimore. The first, Henry Smith Stockbridge, son of Deacon Jason Stockbridge, was born in Hadley, Massachusetts on 31 August 1822 and became a lawyer in Baltimore. He died on 11 March 1895. His son, Henry W. Stockbridge, born 18 September 1856 in Baltimore, also became a lawyer and joined his father's practice briefly (necessarily becoming known as "Jr." despite their different middle names), appearing with him in the 1890 Baltimore City Directory. His son, Henry Stockbridge, was born in 1885/6; and his son, Henry P. Stockbridge, was born 19 May 1917 and died recently on 3 October 2000. It is probably Henry II (1856-1924) who was the mineral collector on the side, having graduated from Amherst, a hotbed of mineralogical interest:
