Donald E. Newsome
(1933-    )

Don Newsome of Renton, Washington is a long-time specialist in fluorescent minerals, and the founder (in 1971) of the international Fluorescent Mineral Society, of which he is currently the Northwest Regional Vice President. He has been collecting fluorescent minerals since 1965, and currently has over 1,100 cataloged specimens. In 1992 he founded UV Systems, Inc. (www.uvsystems.com), and in 1996 he designed and produced the hand-held SuperBright 2000SW ultraviolet light. He has also designed and produced the TripleBright-I and TripleBright-II ultraviolet display lights and the new SuperBright-II models. In 1996 he coordinated the Fluorescent Mineral Society's 25th-anniversary exhibit of 76 showcases of fluorescent minerals at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
