Anton Otto
(fl. 1880-1922)

Anton Otto was a prominent mineral dealer in Vienna, Austria around the turn of the previous century. He placed small ads in The Mineral Collector in 1906, 1907 and 1908, claiming to have the "largest stock of minerals, crystals, etc." at his "Austrian Mineral Office" located at Schlösselgasse 2 in Vienna. That address dates back at least to 1881--a label shown here, with a flowered border, is dated on the back "24.7.81." and another, with an imbricate border, is dated "Aug. 1903." According to Fitz (1993) the Lenaugasse address is older (therefore pre-1881) than the Schlösselgasse address. The business was taken over following World War I by the Vienna mineral dealer Albine Jäger; it lasted until at least 1922. One label with imbricate border is dated 29 March 1936, though that date may not represent a first-generation sale.
