R.W. Tuthill
(1885-1969)

Ralph Wells Tuthill was born in Michigan City, La Porte County, Indiana on March 25, 1885, the son of Superior Court Judge Harry Beakes Tuthill and Alice Wells, and lived most of his life there. In 1910 Ralph was living with his parents and working as the superintendant of a diamond-machining company. By 1920 he had a wife (Winifred Maxwell, married April 21, 1911) and three children (John, Richard and Elizabeth) (he was still manager of the diamond-machining company as of September 1918, though his occupation is illegible on the 1920 census). In 1930 he was working as a real estate agent.

Tuthill also ran a mineral business from his home at 110 Earl Road for a number of years. His first ad as a mineral dealer appeared in the June 1929 issue of Rocks & Minerals, and his last ad there appeard in September 1938, though he continued to advertise in The Mineralogist through June 1956. He died in November 1969 in East Lansing, Michigan.
