Herbert W. Werner
(1901-1982)

Herbert W. Werner was born November 20, 1901. He was raised in Switzerland and trained as a geologist before coming to the U.S. in the 1930s. In 1956 he started the mineral dealership of Western Minerals in Lafayette, California (not to be confused with Gene Schlepp's current business of the same name in Tucson, Arizona). He moved the business to Rialto, California in 1958, and remained at that location until 1972, at which time the business was sold and subsequently closed. He died in Spokane, Washinton in February 1982.

Werner built a substantial mineral collection which was inherited and enlarged by his son, Robert W. Werner (q.v.), also a geologist. It currently numbers over 8,000 specimens and is heavy in ore minerals.
