Frederick Noel Ashcroft
(1878-1949)

Liverpool-born, Oxfoed-educated British mineral collector;original name: Friedrich Noel Ashcroft Fleischmann. He donated his extraordinary collection of 6,625 Swiss mineral specimens and his collection of Irish zeolites to the Natural History Museum, London between 1921 and 1938. The following little poem was composed in Ashcroft's honor by two of his contemporaries, Max Hey and F. A. Bannister:

If you're thinking of visiting Switz,
Don't let the cost give you fits.
For Ashcroft has bought it
And to London has brought it
And now it's in the BM in bits.
