Fr. Ritter
(fl. ca. 1890?-    )

"Fr." (Franz? Friedrich?) Ritter was a private mineral collector in Hildesheim, Germany. At least we assume he was a private collector, considering that his labels say Privatsammlung ("private collection"). Then again, maybe those labels were meant to distinguish his personal collection from his selling stock, as other dealers have occasionally done. In any case, he has not been identified as a dealer in any references from the time period, so he was most likely just a private collector, even though one wonders why he had to emphasize that fact on his labels. Perhaps he was a faculty member of a local school that had its own collection. One thing is certain: his calligraphy was superb, as the labels shown here demonstrate.
