WADSWORTH, Marshman Edward.
(1847 - 1921)

(Born: Livermore Falls, Maine, U.S.A., 6 May 1847; Died: Bangor, Maine, U.S.A., 21 April 1921) American petrologist & crystallographer.

In 1869, Wadsworth graduated from Bowdoin College, Maine. After teaching chemistry in the Dental School at Boston, he became assistant in mineralogy and lithology at Harvard University. In 1884-5, he visited Europe and studied petrography under H. Rosenbusch. In 1887, Wadsworth became president of the new Michigan School of Mines. Later he became Dean of the School of Mines and professor of mining geology at the University of Pittsburgh, retiring in 1912.
