BOCK, Friedrich Samuel.
(1716 - 1786)

(Born: Königsberg, Germany, 20 May 1716; Died: Königsberg, Germany, September 1786) German classicist.

Bock was professor of theology and Greek at the University of Königsberg, where he also became the first librarian of the University. He authored numerous works in theology, and Prussian history and natural history.

Rare. Describes and theorizes on the origin of amber. A bibliography is included that cites references in learned journals to Preussian amber. Sinkankas gives a full description.

Rare. An extensive examination of the natural history wonders in the kingdoms of east and west Prussia. The first volume gives a general geography, anthropology, meteorology and history of the region. Volume two is a mineralogical description giving information on the minerals, mines, fossils, stones, etc. found in Prussia. The third volume is a botanical account of the land, while the fourth describes the indigenous animals, birds, amphibians and fish. The fifth and final part is a description of the insects and worms, as well as containing supplemental material to the other sections.

Contents: Band 1: welcher allgemeine geographische, anthropologische, meteorologische und historische Abhandlungen enthält. Band 2: welcher das unterirdische Preussen oder das Fossilienreich dieses Landes beschreibet. Band 3: welcher eine Beschreibung des Pflanzenreiches dieses Landes in sich begreift. Band 4: welcher die inländischen Säugethiere, Vögel, Amphibien und Fische beschreibet. Band 5: welcher die Beschreibung von einigen preussischen Insekten und Würmern ... liefert ...
