Henry Carrington Bolton
BOLTON, Henry Carrington.

BOLTON, Henry Carrington.
(1843 - 1903)

(Born: New York City, New York, U.S.A., 28 January 1843; Died: 1903) American chemist & mineral collector.

Bolton graduated from Columbia in 1862, and then studied chemistry in Paris, Heidelberg, Göttingen, and Berlin. In 1866 he received the degree of PhD from the University of Göttingen, his dissertation describing the fluorine compounds of uranium. He continued to travel before becoming in 1872 assistant in quantitative analysis in the Columbia School of Mines. In 1874 he became chemistry professor at the Woman's Medical College of the New York Infirmary, which he resigned in 1877. He was then appointed professor of chemistry and natural science in Trinity College, where he taught for the next decade. There he opened its new chemical laboratory, built an outstanding 3,000-piece mineral collection, and published a student guide to quantitative analysis, as well as a massive bibliography of the science.
