Rare. An observant traveler, Brown recorded all the natural and historical objects and features he saw, as well as anything the bore on his medical profession. For his grand tour, he made a difficult tour through the eastern regions of Europe. The present volume is a pleasant account of his travels in the 1668-9s through the mineral rich regions of Hungary, Austria, and Carinthia, with observations on many gold, silver, copper, mercury works. During 1668-9 Brown was in Vienna and undertook the journeys he describes. Like his near contemporary and fellow physician Martin Lister (1638-1712), author of A Journey to Paris (1698), Brown discourses on the geography, social customs and history of the areas in which he traveled.
