(Born: Venice, Italy, 1508; Died: 1568) Italian humanist & poet.

Dolce was born to an impoverished family; however, he studied ancient languages and literature and produced many translations of classical works.

Rare. A direct plagerism of Camillo Leonardi's Speculum Lapidium (2nd ed., Nuremberg, 1516) [which see]. Dolce was widely critized for this work, which follows exactly the contents of Leonardi's work. It contains extracts from a wide variety of ancient sources such as Pliny, Isidore, Albertus Magnus concerning gemstones, their properties, their mystical properties.
