GAUBERT, Paul Marie Benoit.
(1865 - 1948)

(Born: St. Bauzély, Aveyron, France, 24 February 1865; Died: Paris, France, May 1948) French mineralogist.

Between 1883 and 1892, Gaubert was a student of Milne Edwards and Alfred Lacroix, when he studied in Toulouse and Paris. From 1919 to 1920, he was professor of mineralogy at the École des Mines (School of Mines) in Paris. But Gaubert's principle career began in 1893 as préparateur assistant and director of the laboratory at the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. He remained with the Muséum until 1932. In 1909 and again in 1934, he was elected president of the French Mineralogical Society.

Very scarce. A general mineralogical text emphasising those mineral species that occur in France. It is highlighted by 18 good chromolithographic plates showing 119 mineral specimens. These plates are signed by, "Migneaux et Bideault," and printed in color by Draeger et Lesieur. The book was published as the 25 part of the series Histoire Naturelle de la France (Paris, E. Deyrolle, 1882-19  ). The text and plates were first issued c1897 with no dated title page and reissued with no significant change at least once more about 1908.
