MIHÁLKA, Antal.
(1810 - 1867)

(Born: Váczon, Hungary, 4 December 1810; Died: Pest, Hungary, 12 August 1867) Hungarian physician & mineralogist.

In 1827, Mihálka entered the Jesuits to pursue theological studies, but left to train instead as a physician. In 1842, he became an instructor at the Institute of Natural History and Animal Husbandry in Pest, where he also carried out pharmaceutical studies. He authored several textbooks in Hungarian that were concerned with aspects of natural history and which were used for many years in the schools of Hungary.

Very rare. This is a reworking in the Hungarian language of Gustav Rose's Die Elemente der Krystallographie (2nd ed., Berlin, 1838).

Rare. A textbook of mineralogical science designed for students within the Hungarian school system. Apparently popular, it was revised and updated by the author during the remainder of his life, and was published through four editions to 1864.
